La Guaira, Venezuela
March 2016
Casa Guipuzcoana is the most symbolic building in La Guaira.
This was the headquarters of the Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas, established in the 18th century and long defunct.
The Guipuzcoan Company of Caracas was, for almost 60 years, the only body entitled to sell european goods in Venezuela and to export venezuelan agricultural products (mostly cocoa) to Spain and from there, to the rest of Europe.
Casa Guipuzcoana now functions as an institutional building for the local govenment and part museum.
